If you’re like a lot of the brides we know, you’re really looking forward to your wedding reception. After walking down the aisle and saying your “I do’s,” it’s time to celebrate. And what better way to do that than by getting down on the dance floor with your new husband and all of your favorite people! If you and your fiancé are eager to turn the reception into one big dance party, keep on reading for some guaranteed ways to make it happen.

Use RSVPS Cards to Collect Songs for Wedding Reception

Collect songs on RSVPs.

Include a line on your RSVPs that asks each guest to recommend a favorite song for the wedding reception. After gathering the submissions, collaborate with your DJ or band to build a custom playlist that is sure to get people moving.

Have comfy footwear for dancing guests.

Special occasions call for special shoes…and we all know that these special shoes can leave our feet aching in a matter of minutes. Make sure uncomfortable footwear doesn’t deter guests from boogying on the dance floor by having flip flops or slippers available.

Try the “snowball” trick.

Every couple should have this trick up their sleeve: Enlist 4 friends to start dancing in pairs at a key point in the reception when you want the energy to pick up, such as after your first dance or shortly after the main course has been served. After a few moments, have them split off to grab new partners, repeating and doubling the number of dancers on the floor every 15 or 30 seconds.

Dim the lights.

Many people feel a little bit awkward shaking it on the dance floor. Dim the lights and some of those inhibitions are likely to slide away, especially with the right song playing.

Set an example…with the help of your wedding party, of course!

If you really want to get people dancing, the best thing you can do is get out there on the dance floor for yourself and show them how it’s done. Now remember, you’ll be busy visiting with guests, so this may be a bit harder than it sounds. Kick things off by giving the members of your wedding party simple orders: just dance!
