Every year, the Pantone Color Institute® announces a color of the year. Fashion designers, interior decorators, graphic designers, and creative directors have been in on the annual announcement for years, counting down the days to the big unveiling. Over the last few years, more and more do-it-yourselfers, crafters, artists, and fashionistas are joining the growing group of color enthusiasts. Naturally, brides-to-be want in on the trend for their wedding colors, too!

This year’s color of the year is marsala, a color that the Institute describes as seductive, confident, and warm. To read more about marsala, complementary color palettes, and why it was chosen as the 2015 color of the year, visit the official website here. Former choices include Radiant Orchid in 2014, Emerald in 2013, and Tangerine Tango in 2012.

But back to the brides! Are you interested in incorporating marsala into your wedding colors? It’s a lush color that mesmerizes and combines elements of elegance and fun, that is both timeless and contemporary…no wonder it’s been named this year’s top color! Here are some ideas on how you can make it a part of your wedding colors:

Bridal Look

From brightly colored shoes to a bold hair piece, there are lots of ways to add a splash of color to your bridal look. (Be sure to check out our blog post on the topic to get some fun ideas!) Remember, you can always make adjustments to your look between the ceremony and the reception. If you wear a veil during the ceremony, consider trading it for a marsala-colored head piece for the reception.

Makeup and Nails

Marsala is a versatile color that looks flattering on many different skin tones, making it the perfect option for a bold lip. Consider it for your manicure or pedicure–it works equally well with cream, white, and off-white wedding dresses.

Wedding Party

If you haven’t yet found the perfect dress(es) for your bridal party, you may be inspired to look at options in the marsala color family. You can make it more formal by choosing a longer length or silk or lace fabric, while a chiffon dress that sits above the knee would be quite casual and playful.

Reception Entrance

Consider staging the entrance area to your reception so that guests are immediately greeted by scents and scenery you’ve chosen. Oversized floral arrangements, carefully selected music, and marsala wine will create an atmosphere that will transport them from the rush of their lives so they can truly enjoy this special day instead of thinking about everything on their to-do list.

Menu

The color marsala, of course, gets its own inspiration from marsala wine, which is frequently used in cooking. From the classic chicken marsala to a filling risotto, there are so many ways you can include it in your wedding colros menu. And don’t forget the dessert–a marsala-infused tiramisu is guaranteed to keep your guests happy!
